Intro to Radical Archives

Radical archives provide an alternative to the traditional archival repository. They challenge the conventional models of custodianship, arrangement and access that have dominated the mainstream archival establishment. The aim of this website isn’t to demote the value of institutional archives but to engage in a critical examination of how history is accessed, recorded and assessed. Archives are tasked with responsibility of recording history and preserving it for future generations but who gets archived and recorded in history? Is the archival platform accessible to everyone? How do systems of power operate in a structure that was essentially a product of a colonial system of recording privilege. The aim of this project is to discuss, highlight and document archive projects that are bringing these issues to the forefront.
